This art piece is from a synchronicity hunt where I walked and took photos of anything that calls my attention. Double Peach Hibiscus flower. It spoke to me of feminine grace. Somehow in the ruggedness of walking several blocks while in sweatpants and oversized T-shirt, I got entranced by its softness and femininity.

I thought to myself, “that flower is me whenever I’m in my soft girl moment” and standing in front of it shows me the duality of my personality.

Softness and gracefulness. Even if we appear strong as we have to be, on the inside we are soft and graceful. Whether it made me feel sad or happy, depends on how long it has been since I felt like a flower. But everything can be an inspiration. And so this beautiful specie, I chose to paint in a way that showcases its majesty.

Whereas I would normally integrate synchronistic reference into a surrealistic composition. I thought this one, along with the inspiration to embody what it proudly projects, deserves to be immortalized on a still life painting. I chose to add another ornamental plant I came across to the composition and the palm nuts that reminded me of the palm tree we had at the front porch of our house when I was a kid. It was a time when I would wear layered fruity skirts and cropped tees, head band and santan (jungle geranium) flower bracelets.

“Dalaga” a tagalog word for girl is what we refer to when you entered a teenage period where you have just blossomed into your femininity. There was no specific age. Just that shift in your aura and behaviors that show elders that you are already “dalaga”.

Some of us can only remember that softness and grace because Life has to shift us into becoming stronger women… a bit more on the masculine side. Few gets to blossom and fully evolve into a double peach type of majestic feminine vibe. But maybe we can and we only need to be reminded. So here’s a reminder that sometimes you can be normal and sometimes you can be a Queen.
