The Story
Pretty in Seclusion. Another piece from a set of references gathered during an intuitive photography around the neighborhood using my Nikon DSLR. I walked sensing for objects and nature that will catch my attention and as I enter the nearby freeway’s service road I thought I’d go back home with nothing.
The road was gray pavement, gray noise barrier walls, gray stonewall fences, an empty lot with just grass, and a long stretch of adjacent gray highway. Near the end was a footbridge to cross said freeway. And let me tell you, it has more gray. I climbed up the stairs already huffing and puffing from the long walk. I stopped for a breath, and just thru the chicken wires, a ball of long petals peeked at me. Sometimes it feels like treasure hunting, sometimes I feel like it’s a game of hide and seek, sometimes it feels like Im being rewarded only after Ive burned enough calories.
When I got home, only two significant things I took home. One, the pictures… including the pictures of the gray noise barrier with its interesting irregularly-shaped dents to make the noise bounce and that pretty “flower ball” of a tree I still do not know the name of. Two, a visual metaphor for “Beauty can be found in the most unexpected places”… midway up the footbridge, in between labored breaths.
